The slight drizzle prevailing overnight made way for overcast conditions by the time Riju, the Spektra Blue Captain won the toss and elected to bat first. The overcast conditions provided ample movement in the air for the Red bowlers. Blue made a steady start with Anuvansh (3) and Rajesh (3) keeping the scoreboard ticking with a couple of singles an over. By the 4th over, the score reached 16/0, with 10 runs contributed via extras. Two quick wickets in the fifth over by Shareq brought Amol and Riju (4) to the crease. Shareq found the outside edge of the bat yet again and Selvanathan made no mistake to send Riju back in the 10th over. Shareq finished his quota of overs with an impressive 4/19. Pavan (16) and Amol (24) then steadied the innings with a 36 run stand for the fifth wicket. The partnership was broken when Amol played straight to Mitra, trying to up the run rate. Tharsan followed soon after, with a well-judged catch by Anjan in the deep. Pavan was soon dismissed when he could not make his ground attempting to steal a second. The last over of the innings by Debayan, who had good figures of 3-0-10-1, went for 18 runs, with Arun (18) slogging a couple of sixes, including a missed chance in the deep, to set Red a target of 134 to win.
The clouds cleared up and provided a rather sunny start to the Reds innings. It was a wayward start for Blue with 8 runs flowing through extras in the first over.Wickets at regular intervals, including a wicket maiden by Pavan in the 9th, though ensured that the match was on with Red reaching 46/6 in the 10th over.Three dropped chances helped Red along the way. Shareq came to the crease in the 11th over and made merry, singling out Pavan, for some special treatment. It was heartening that Pavan (3/35) provided incisive strikes throughout the innings including Reds captain Akshay (15), who looked to be in good nick. Shareq holed out at deep square leg after a run-a-ball 33, bringing Red close to victory. Gagan (18*) made sure that victory was theirs and hit the winning runs in the final over. Amidst the chaos, where 60 runs were given away as extras, Riju returned economical and impressive figures of 4-0-15-3. Ultimately, it was Shareq’s day with a good all round performance for Spektra Red.
